My family and I eat so many organic vegetables daily, so I love that I can grow a little just in water!
That’s right! You can grow vegetables in just water, without soil!
Some vegetables can actually re-grow themselves.
We eat salad twice a day, so I love that I can re-grow organic romaine lettuce in water.
- Cut off about 2 inches of the bottom of an organic romaine lettuce head
- Put it in about ½ inch of water in a cup or small bowl, just enough water to cover the roots. Otherwise, it can get slimy and moldy
- Place nearby a window so there is some sunlight
- Change the water once a day
- If any side leaves get too soft, peel them off
- Watch it grow in 3-4 days
- Lettuce will re-grow for you to eat!
I love putting them in coffee mugs or small bowls and I place a row of them at my kitchen window.
It’s like having a mini garden, but with no soil.
It may not seem like a lot, but it’s a little something that you can re-grow from something you would have thrown away.
You can do this with celery, green onion, bok choy, cabbage, and lemon grass.
And always start with organic!
