The Perfect Whole Food
Eggs are one of nature’s “perfect foods” – and one of the best anti-aging foods you can eat. We use them in so many ways – and one of the easiest ways is to hard boil them and then store them for a quick and easy meal or snack.
However, getting perfect hard boiled eggs can by somewhat challenging! You want them fully cooked, and easy to peel – and hopefully without the yolk turning gray on the outside (although that’s just for looks!).
I eat a hard-boiled egg every morning for breakfast. I season it with a little black pepper, cayenne, ground ginger, and turmeric! Yum! And by the way, eggs do NOT increase your cholesterol levels!
The egg whites have protein which is a necessary part of a healthy anti-aging diet.
And the egg YOLKS are loaded with vitamins, minerals, high quality proteins, and good fats. One egg yolk contains an amazing range of nutrients including vitamins A, B2, B5, B12, and selenium.
Eggs also contain small amounts of almost every vitamin and mineral required by the human body… including calcium, iron, potassium, zinc, manganese, Vitamin E, Folate and many more.
For optimal health, eat organic free-range eggs. (Trader Joe’s has pretty good prices.)
Make your hard-boiled eggs ahead of time for the week, so they’re ready for breakfast or a snack. Season with pepper, cayenne, turmeric, and ginger to get the most out of the amazing amount of nutrients found in eggs!
Here are some tips to make perfect hard boiled eggs every time!
There are tons of “how-tos” to make perfect hard boiled eggs….from using week old eggs to adding salt or baking soda to the water before boiling. We’ve even used muffin tins in the oven that promised easy to make perfect hard boiled eggs every time.
While none of them worked 100% of the time, the one constant in all of them was the ice bath! Immediately placing a boiled egg in cold water not only keeps it from overcooking – but also makes it easier to peel. This is how I boil and store eggs – and it works great!!
Use the stove-top. Put about 6 eggs in a pot, and fill with water to 2 inches above the eggs. It’s important to make sure that all the eggs are completely covered in water!
Cover pot, and bring to a boil. Continue to boil for one minute. Remove from heat and set it aside – keep it covered for 12 minutes.
After the 12 minutes, drain the pot and immediately put the eggs in ICE WATER – this stops them from cooking and will also make them easier to peel!
Store the eggs in water inside the refrigerator for the week.
